The critical communication and alerting platform Secapp has firmly established its position within Finnish healthcare. Today, it is used by over 43,000 employees across all 21 wellbeing services counties. The system saves staff time, simplifies daily work, and supports employee wellbeing. The same solution is now also being utilized in Estonia and Canada.

Across the wellbeing services counties, Secapp is part of everyday life — in emergency departments, delivery wards, and situation centers. It is used for shift callouts, lone worker safety, and critical task alerts. The platform provides a real-time situational overview to everyone involved and enables efficient operations even during emergencies.

Healthcare and rescue service customers have played a crucial role in Secapp’s growth journey. The collaboration has spanned over a decade and has deepened significantly with the establishment of the Finnish wellbeing services counties in recent years, which reorganized healthcare and rescue services management in the country.

One of the most significant benefits of Secapp is the improvement in operational efficiency. Customers report that alerting personnel through Secapp is up to 90% faster compared to phone or text message chains. When critical information reaches the right people within seconds, healthcare professionals can focus on patient care instead of spending valuable time making calls or clarifying details. This reduces stress and improves workflow.

“Even individual Secapp functions, such as multi-patient alerts, can streamline customer processes. At its best, broad use of Secapp across social, healthcare, and rescue organizations supports the wellbeing services counties’ strategic goal of reducing the number of systems in use. The benefits are significant, from cost savings to reduced time spent maintaining multiple systems,” says Pasi Tervonen, Account Director at Secapp.

Critical Support When Every Second Matters

Because Secapp is used in daily operations, it ensures staff are familiar with the system when a real emergency occurs. When responsibilities are split across multiple systems, there’s a risk that, for example, contact details may not be up to date during a crisis. Critical incidents include major accidents, water rescue operations, and emergency surgeries.

“If, for example, a cardiac patient needs emergency surgery during night hours, Secapp can be used to alert staff even in the middle of the night. The alert is sent to all recipients at once, allowing the person in charge to start preparing the operating room immediately. Before Secapp, this was done by calling staff members one by one,” explains Niina Markkanen, Customer Success Manager at Secapp.

In summer 2025, Secapp supported customers in alerting rescue teams for water rescue missions. Water rescues require specialized skills and equipment, and rescuers may be off duty or volunteers. With Secapp, a single alert can instantly reach all qualified personnel, ensuring a fast and coordinated response.

Employee safety is equally important. In home care, for example, lone workers must be able to call for help quickly. With Secapp, employees can send an emergency alert directly to the situation center, which immediately dispatches assistance.

Expanding from Finland to Estonia and Canada

Secapp’s benefits have also been recognized internationally. In Estonia, the company first won a national healthcare tender in 2020, and the critical communication partnership agreement was renewed in 2024. The contract covers 14 hospitals across the country.

In Canada, Secapp expanded to the Arnprior region in Ontario, Canada. After a six-month pilot, Arnprior Regional Health signed a commercial agreement in August 2025. Users report that the platform has streamlined daily workflows, enhanced team collaboration, and supports data gathering to fulfill local documentation and compliance requirements.

In Canada, Secapp works with its local partner Brightbuild. The collaboration ensures that customers receive local-language support and on-site assistance whenever needed.

Looking Ahead: Scaling the Impact of Secapp

Secapp aims to further expand its use across healthcare, social services, and rescue organizations both in Finland and internationally. The system still holds significant untapped potential to support and enhance healthcare operations worldwide.

“A Finnish innovation originally developed for crisis and emergency communication has now found its way into international hospitals. We are proud to support healthcare professionals and organizations both in Finland and abroad,” says Kari Aho, CEO of Secapp.
