“One of our nurses said that she had never fallen in love with any app, but with Secapp she has.”

The Mikkeli First Aid Centre is responsible for providing first aid services throughout the region of South Savo. Within the first few years of its use, Secapp became an irreplaceable part of the daily operational reliability of the centre.

The Mikkeli First Aid Centre is part of the wellbeing services county of South Savo, also known as Eloisa. The centre is responsible for providing first aid services for the entire South Savo region.

Secapp is used daily at the First Aid Centre, for example, for filling work shifts and ensuring that there are always enough ambulances in operation within the region.

– If there’s staff missing somewhere, we can quickly reach the needed people with Secapp. It also filters the responses for us automatically. We don’t need to start answering the phone; Secapp completes the shift filling process for us, says Marika Heiskanen, service secretary at Mikkeli Hospital.

Before Secapp, the First Aid Centre used two different SMS based systems. However, the systems had shortcomings from the perspective of operational reliability.

– In one major accident drill, most of the messages reached their recipients with a two-day delay. When we did a similar drill with Secapp, only two messages out of 500 were delivered with a small delay.

Operational reliability is crucial for patient safety. With a reliable system, it is ensured that every location and procedure always has the right number of people present.

– Secapp saves both time and money. It has made life much, much better. One of our nurses said that she had never fallen in love with an application, but with Secapp she has, Heiskanen says happily.

Secapp has now become an integral part of the daily life of the First Aid Center, and now the thought of work days without the app seems distant.

“Secapp has left me with such positive feelings that if someone in this hospital announced the discontinuation of its use, there would be a lot of tears, and I would oppose it by any possible means.”
